US military: American soldier killed in Iraq

BAGHDAD - The U.S. military says an American soldier has been killed in action in Iraq.

A military statement said the soldier from the Multi-National Division — South died on Sunday.

No further details were immediately available.

The soldier's name is being withheld until family members can be notified.

The death raises to at least 4,364 the number of U.S. military personnel who have died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
